Formé en 2005, le quatuor Engegård a très vite rencontré les lumières d’un rayonnement international et se produit désormais dans le monde entier. Pour ce concert, ils proposent un voyage dans les inspirations de la Mitteleuropa. Avec d’abord le plus vif des quatuors prussiens de Mozart, dont l’ample partie de violoncelle était destinée à séduire le roi Guillaume II, qui jouait de l’instrument en amateur… Plus tard et plus avant vers la Bohême, la Méditation sur le vieux choral tchèque Saint Wenceslas (1914) de Josef Suk reprend un hymne tchèque du XIIe siècle pour raviver la fibre patriotique dans un empire austro-hongrois chancelant. Cheminant vers l’Est, en Moravie, le premier des deux quatuors à cordes de Janácek s’inspire de Tolstoï pour ouvrir un monde d’émotions fortes. Enfin, on découvrira une pièce du jeune compositeur anglo-tchèque Philip Dutton qui affirme « aimer raconter des histoires de façon vivante et directe. »
