Eva is the cosmic mother of all beings, and Monday – Montag – is her day. A generative and sensual force, she will bring fantastic creatures into the world and enchant humans... Continuing to shed light on Stockhausen’s grand cycle Licht. The Seven Days of the Week, Le Balcon opens the workshop of opera creation, offering open rehearsals, listening sessions, and performances of solo scenes from this world-encompassing work.
In Montag, Stockhausen celebrates the birth of the world and the feminine aspect of humanity through its symbols (the moon, water, childbirth), which cross all cultures and human temporalities. Written between 1981 and 1984, Montag aus Licht pushes instrumental virtuosity, electronic composition, and technological challenges to a unique level. Premiered in 1988 at La Scala in Milan, Montag "explodes" the boundaries of traditional Italian theater, creating a true magic envisioned by the composer.
After Freitag aus Licht, presented in 2022 at the Opéra de Lille, Le Balcon offers a selection of solo scenes from Monday of Light, as part of the extensive preparation required for this opera.
